Default How hard to upgrade insulation?

I am going to have my seats out for seat belt upgrades soon and was wondering how hard it would be to upgrade the factory insulation on the CSX at the same time? While my FE wouldn't keep me warm in the winter any longer, it also wouldn't bake me quite so much in the summer if it was better insulated. I have talked to other cobra owners that said they get little or no heat transfer from the engine. So....

1) How hard is it to replace the insulation?

2) What insulation would you use?

3) Anything else I need to consider here?

Thanks!

I have never worked on a real Cobra but I have worked on a lot of different replicas. I think it would be easy to replace the insulation under the carpet. Your carpet may be held in place with screws and or glue. Most foil insulation is 1/2" thick which should be about the same as what you have. If you don't have insulation now, the 1/2" should not cause you any problems when you install the carpet. I would suggest you cover as much of the inside firewall as you can. The tunnel and floor back back to the bulkhead. I covered the bulkhead for sound isolation from the rear end noise.
Summit, Jegs and hot rod shops sell a foil backed insulation in small rolls. You can measure your Cobra. I think it would take about 60 sq ft.

The firewall and tunnel are only basically insulated. -- the carpet is glued down so of you are looking to insulate this may mean some re-carpeting.

You could insulate from the underside of the car and see how it does from there. --

Something with a metal face and /or a aerogel mat/ nomex mat.

Ah, that was helpful. Too many other things to do to rip up all the carpet and replace it along with the insulation. A project for another day.
