Default Carroll Shelby in the ICU at UCLA

Reported earlier today...Carroll was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center, and is currently in the ICU...details have not yet been released on his current status...but lets hope for the best!

He's been in and out of hospital almost daily, had a fall and broke some ribs, been wheelchair bound, couldn't air travel in pressurized cabins because of steroid injections into his eyeballs and is having kidney problems. Other than that he's doing pretty good for an 89 year old who is the oldest living heart donor recipient whose father died at what age? I hope they don't beat on the poor old bugger too mercilessly trying to get him to all these 50th events. Amelia Island is this weekend. It could become a movie "A weekend at Shelbys". Best to him and his fam.

Dennis,

I can't find anything anywhere that says it is true or not true. I even went to the Shelby Site and never saw a word about it. I have seen a couple of posts on other sites but no links or anything that really tells if it is so or not. I hope not, but he has had a hard time since his fall.

As the OP stated, he has been in and out of ICU very recently, and his health is currently at a low point and of concern.

This is not rumor, nor something that SA would issue as a press release.

We wish him well.

Ron,

Thanks for the information. I knew that his health was at a low point, but hadn't seen anything about him being rushed to the ICU.

We all wish him well.

Ron

I'm headed to Amelia Island for the show. I had packed the first issue of SHELBY magazine with the hope I could get him to sign it. After reading this, now I'm just hoping for him to get better.
He will be missed at the show. I've talked to several people who are going and they were excited to see him.

I wish him and his family the best.

It is so true. Had Carroll not taken that little British car and put a huge American V8 in it and subsequently (with the Cobra and its variants) collectively wupped a**, the little Bristol AC-Ace would have suffered the same obscurity as the Berkeley. There would still be a few around, but noone would think anything of them.

The fact that the Cobra is the most copied car in the world is only due to what Carroll and his team of California racers did with it.

I am sorry to hear this is not an unfounded rumor. It will be a cool experience for Mr. Shelby to attend the 50th Events, if he is well enough to attend. Back in 2002 I was THE last person to get his autograph that day at the Monterey Historic Auto Races on one of my many Cobra books. I was three away and could tell he was getting tired of autographing scraps of paper and brochures. His staff cut the line off right behind me, an Mr. Shelby graciously signed my Cobra book.

I wish him peace and comfort and good friends around during this period of his life.

Sincerely,
Dangerous Doug
