I always thought of this man as having many qualities that a businessman needs, but he was also a medical wonderment.
To carry on with a new kidney in 1990 and a new heart in 1996 is just another of his amazing accomplishments! I am not a doctor, but it just seems to me that the mortality rate for organ replacement is much less than what Caroll actually received! RIP I am also sorry to have never met the man. |
A very sad day.
His spirit will continous in all of our cobra`s forever. The legend will go on ....... |
He made some mistakes in business (and who hasn't) but the bottom line is, he is the reason we are all here.
I wish him Godspeed, and best wishes to his family. RIP CS. |
The race is run, the flag unfurled, the champion now will rest. God speed, Carroll Shelby, we will never forget you. Jan. 11, 1923 - May 10, 2012.

Carrol Shelby's passing
Carrol Shelby was a automotive icon who's accomplishments have been well documented. He had the vision to build a car that would become a classic over 50 years later and start an industry that even Carrol could not imagine would grow to the extent that it has. All of us who supply the parts and enjoy the car owe a great debt of gratitude to Carrol Shelby. We were very lucky that we lived in the same era as Carrol Shelby and witnessed the growth of the car and saw a man who was a chicken farmer in Texas grow to be one of the most respected men in automotive history. He was a true racer and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and close friends.

Might be a repeat, but in case anyone did not read:
" Shelby is believed to be the only person to win Le Mans as a driver (with Aston Martin), a manufacturer (class victory with the Cobra Daytona coupe) and team owner (Ford's GTs). " Carroll Shelby: 1923-2012 - Autoweek |
We should have a fire her up day.Every cobra ower shoulld start their car at the same day and time.

Rev Em Up Tribute for Carroll
Davidsaur,
Great idea, a moment of ROARING V8's with side pipes for Carroll would be amazing. I'm certain that Carroll would be smiling looking down on us all! Worldwide coordination via Twitter. **) In my own tribute, I've been firing the big block up and been doing Cobra cruises starting last Saturday, and since the weather has been cooperating well here in the Pacific NW, even after work every day all this week! Seems like all the world is aware of Carroll's passing and I'm seeing more thumbs up than ever before. Thank you for all this Mister Shelby. God Bless You. |

Ford II, member of the Board of Directors of Ford Motor Company. “He was a close personal friend and I will miss him very much. We’re honored to be part of this important tribute celebrating the many contributions and achievements of a true innovator.” Shelby’s favorite organization was the Carroll Shelby Foundation™, which provides medical assistance for those in need, including children, as well as educational opportunities for young people through automotive and other training programs. It also benefits the Shelby Automotive Foundation. Donations to the Carroll Shelby Foundation are encouraged in lieu of flowers at The Carroll Shelby Foundation. The museum will display the first Shelby Cobra, a 2013 Ford Shelby GT500, a selection of Shelby American’s 50th Anniversary vehicles, a Series 1 and other significant Shelby cars from the past five decades. They will be exhibited throughout the facility and will be accessible for viewing as part of general ticketed admission. A guest list for the invitation-only service is being developed due to space limitations. People involved with Shelby’s interests, from chili cook-offs to aviation, autos, philanthropy and societal groups will be invited. Guest speakers will include Mr. Shelby’s close friends.
