From The CEO & Founder of Wicked Quick:
In the past year, I was fortunate enough to have had the pleasure of meeting the great Carroll Shelby several times at the Shelby home base in Gardena, California. Our last meeting took place in September of last year. Carroll was reviewing our Spring / Summer collection, which we had just launched exclusively at the Kitson Boutiques in California the month prior. As I showed him our blue and white striped denim jacket, which was based on the original racing jackets Shelby had worn during his heyday in the 1960's, his face lit up. A huge smile crossed his face, and the man just beamed excitement as the memories came flooding back. "I love it", he said, and then he eagerly proceeded to try it on and make it his own. We did extensive research in order to help us create a collection that truly represented Carroll Shelby - what he wore, who he was, the lifestyle he represented. We wanted to be as authentic as possible, and our efforts were not in vain after the genuine and heartfelt response we had from Shelby that September day. With our hand-made jackets and tees, carefully distressed and faded to evoke that nostalgia of the past, we brought him back to his Chicken Farmer roots (they called him "the Chicken Farmer—turned race car driver", and he wore his over-alls in his early racing days). Through all of Shelby's success and fame, he never forgot his Texan roots. As we walked around the office, talking about what he wore back in his racing days , and the excitement and the lifestyle of his youth, there was no way you could miss the fire in Carroll's belly for his beloved sport. He was energized, as if the 50's and 60's were yesterday, and his career were just beginning. It was truly a pleasure to have met and worked with this great racing legend. Everyone here at Wicked Quick is saddened by his passing, and we will remain in awe of his remarkable achievements and his contribution to American automotive culture. He worked hard until the very end, and I can't imagine Carroll saying anything other than "Keep Going"! Rest in Peace, Carroll Shelby. You won't be forgotten. I had a chance to meet and talk with CS at the Concours d'Elegance @ Stanford Univ. many years ago. I asked him to sign my Cobra racing shirt which he did, twice! He was such a down to earth guy to everyone he talked to. I was hoping he might make it to the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this August where the Cobra is the marque car this year, not to mention it's 50th anniversary. The Cobras will be out in force on the track. RIP.

Carroll Shelby will never - ever - be forgotten.
Carroll was one of the most influential figures in motor sports history. His accomplishments were many and his impact on American racing was significant. The blockbuster success of Carroll's Cobra movement was so powerful that it struck fear throughout the Italian populous ... right down to the core of Old Man Ferrari. Enzo Ferrari was so afraid of Carroll Shelby that he pulled strings to have the final race of the 1964 season cancelled just so Italy wouldn't lose the World Championship to the Americans. Talk about American muscle! My father, Dave MacDonald, had the privilege of driving for Carroll in the early 1960's and my mother says he loved Carroll dearly. RIP sir, you will be missed. PS, when you see my father, please tell him I love him ... Rich |
Cannot be said any better than it has on this thread. Sincere condolences to the family, we'll always think of this giant of a man as we wheel our Cobras.
