Default Expandable Foam w/Fiberglass Problems?

Gentlemen,

I have an early production CSX4000 series Cobra. I want to tackle a problem the car has with excessive heat within the cockpit. I have a serious draft of hot air that comes in from the area of the door hinges.

It's a fiberglass bodied car and I was thinking of using an expandable foam in this area. Have any of you tried this? Will the foam cause any kind of chemical reaction that will distort the fiberglass?

If any of you have done this with success, could you please recommend a specific brand/type of foam to use?

Thanks!

I used water pipe foam insulation from Home Depot, compressed and jammed it into the area behind the hinges and gaps around the drivers footbox. Still working fine and no mess if I ever need to work in the area. Jim

Default I used it

I used it on my car. Make sure you use the low expansion "Door & Window" type. The conventional stuff will distort panels but the low expansion type won't. As I recall, the low expansion type comes in the blue can, regular in the red/yellow can. Read the label, it is well marked.

Make sure you tape off all the areas around where you are doing it. The stuff will go everywhere and is a really sticky mess till it cures. And there isn't a solvent that will remove the cured mess (don't ask how I know ) and make sure you wear nitrile gloves. When it gets on your hands, the only way to get it off is to let it wear off.

I built some dams using cardboard and duct tape to make a form for it. You really want to control where it expands to. It will ooze out of every opening
