Mentioning the tour brought back thoughts of the 289 that caught fire last year, is that being repaired?

It left the shop of Drew Serb late this week and was delivered to Mike McCluskey's in Torrance for finishing. Metal work is done, and the shell looks great.

What caused the fire? What was done to contain it?

Fuel line ruptured near the carburetor while driving through a tunnel in Utah on a Cobra tour. Once that happens, there is very little one can do to contain it. The couple driving were lucky to bail out before being seriously burned.

Nice work Brian, you didn't offer any suggestions on their artistic liberties on the car ;-)

How come the rest of the Cobras in that saloon cannot be touched, but CSX3104 can be? Is the car "public friendly" and the others not? In that case, wonder if one can just walk in, take it for a test drive, hand the keys back (5 hours later) and say "$1.1M is just a tad bit too north of my budget, but nice car anyways! I'll give you a call..."

CSX 3104 is a beautiful car!!!!! I am partial to the Street version, but so miss the look of the Sunburst wheels on these cars.
As I have posted here before, I have an original set of Sunbursts on my car. Love the look.
I'll start another thread to try to track their history.
Cheers
Greg

Did it start as a street car, then get painted with side pipes and roll bar, then converted back to a street car...

Lots of them got added parts back when they were new. I did those mods to mine back then. Now I am liking the street car look.

I'm not sure what you mean, exactly.
All of the original Cobras in there are kept behind the velvet rope, and I suspect that only a serious buyer would be allowed a drive. As it happened, the rope had been left "open" by one of the staff, so I just helped myself to a closer look.
A young employee came by and he was nice enough to pop the hood for me to take some engine pics. Then an old employee came by and asked me to get back behind the rope. Bah, humbug.

CSX3104 is the only one without the "Do not touch" warning on the windshield I'm always accused of having a gray or dull (or both) sense of humor

Still, a good read about the digital splash car for the future Kirkhams.
