Default NEWS: Shelby American announced 50th Anniversary Edition Cobra Daytona Coupe

FYI ~ Shelby American Inc. has just announced (yet another) special 50th Anniversary Edition Cobra -- the Daytona Coupe -- to be produced in (you guessed it) a limited run of 50 units.

As with all continuation-series Cobras, the 50AE is available with either a fiberglass or aluminum body. The chassis numbers will fall within the CSX9950–CSX9999 range.

Pricing for the base aluminum Daytona Coupe, not including drivetrain, is an eye-watering $349,995 USD. The fiberglass cars are a relative bargain at $179,995 USD.

See press release here: Shelby.com and brochure here: http://www.shelby.com/images/pdf/50thDaytonaCoupe.pdf

Sundude,

Is the ally version a version of the 'enlarged' glass coupe (brock/CSX)?
Is it from South Africa or Kirkham?

What am I thinking? It certainly looks like a KMP.
It's just that I saw, roughly a year and a half ago, an ally Daytona that supposedly was made by HiTech.
Wonder whatever happened to that venture...

I'm not 100% sure about that.

I know that Hi-Tech produced a few aluminum-bodied coupes that were sold as Shelbys: CSX9001 and CSX9011, at a minimum. I don't know if they ever produced one as a Superformance Brock Coupe.

Nonetheless, I believe Kirkham is supplying the new ally-bodied Shelby Coupes.

I noticed that right hand drive is available. Were any of the originals RHD?

Wow! Well I'm very excited about this. Where do they get these brilliant ideas?

The "pitch" meetings for these "next product" ideas must rival that of inside Apple HQ.

That would be my guess, too.
That would make these two versions of the coupes pretty far apart.

Thanks, Sundude, Jeff.

I almost bought the first HiTech alloy car, but my wife vetoed it. The body was sourced from the British guys from AC (can't remember their name). The car had been ordered and the person backed out and left a sizable deposit on the table.

I believe Kirkham bought the rights to McCluskey's Daytona Coupe so the alloy cars are probably now Kirkham. (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on this point) Shelby never shipped a car without paint either... That's a Kirkham-ism.

I just saw a post on Facebook from Shelby.
Since they described them as "faithfull aluminum", and "reimagined fiberglass",
we can assume who made which.

Correct. And there's a provision in each sales contract that all transactions are to be paid in denominations of Drachmas.

I don't know, these cars just look fake to me.. I'd rather see that three hundred and fifty thousand clams go to feed starving children.

That brings a point.
Why aren't one of these "special editions" auctioned off for the CS Children's Foundation? Don't hear much about that foundation anymore since CS passed.
Maybe the new regime decided it's a "non-performing asset".

Well, posted on that other "Special Edition" thread, allegedly $50,000, or 10% of $500,000 sales price, of the "Resurrection" Competiton newly-created 3000 series Cobras will go to charity. I can't remember if it's the CS Heart Foundation or what.

They are a public entity, so they do have to make a profit at some point. Can't be giving it away too often.

With a roller coming in at $350k, a decent engine, trans, and installation for it all, along with a little bug-shakeout, is going to crest $400k. I find that to be bordering on the obscene.

Why are you so focused on money? As they say, if you have to ask.....

And anyway, as the press release states:

“This is a rare opportunity to snag a piece of performance history.”

How often do you get a chance to go back and right a wrong? It's a Limited Special Edition and you rarely get a chance to return to the 1960's.

I ought to write this fluff for a living.
