Default Customer reviews of Shelby dealers

For CSX owners,

I am in the market for a CSX car and so I might order a CSX 6000 series.

As I consider various Shelby dealers, I would greatly appreciate your insights from your experience. Please share whatever details about your dealer that you wish you had when you placed your order.

Of particular interest to me, did you order your car from afar? That will be my case as I am in Vermont / Northeast US, so I will be sorting out my car at a distance from the dealer. I am concerned that the distance could be a problem, if I have an issue sorting out the car.

If you prefer, then please send me a PM.

Thanks in advance for your counsel.

~ For completeness, yes, I have also been scouring the used market but no luck so far.....

I've heard good things about Hillbank and Denbeste, whichever dealer you choose, make sure they are a current authorized reseller.

I personally know both Dan at Downforce and Marcus at 427 Garage and can honestly recommend either.

Becker used to be highly recommended for east coast folks, but I don't know if he's doing Shelby any more.

I ordered my Superformance from Hillbank in Ca. I am dealing with Doug Campbell and I am in WV. Doug and Hillbank are great to work with and very helpful. The good news is Hillbank has opened a new dealership in FL. and Doug is at that dealership now. Give him a call he will take good care of you.

Why not call SAI Vegas?
As I remember it the SAI route also might help with pricing as they dictate to dealers. In the past I asked about their GT and they said start with them to help avoid "the Juice" added to sticker by dealers.

Shelby American does not sell to end users, they are the manufacturer. And just like you can't buy a Mustang directly from Ford, they only sell through dealers. My understanding of the distribution network is that Hillbank is actually the top of the tree and handles all the secondary dealers.

Default Re-seller / Secondary Dealer

Thank you so much to all that have shared their insights. And as expected, I have learned so much from you.

To include references to "re-sellers" and "Hillbank as the top of the tree" and others as "secondary dealers."

Could someone please elaborate here? Clearly I still have much to learn.

Again, thank you!

~ Brian

Brian,

If buying a new build, think of it in simpler terms:

1: You have a new car dealer who buys directly from the manufacturer, they then sell it to you.
2: You have a used car dealer who is not a licensed dealer for a specific manufacturer, but takes such cars "on consignment" from the new car dealer. These folks show the car on the website as "in stock", even though the car is not at their location, but at the original "factory authorized" dealer.

It really is that simple, hope you find this helpful.

Hillbank is/was the primary "distributor" for Shelby American. All cars, going through all dealers, go to or through Hillbank first. I suspect this is a paperwork saving measure for Shelby since they don't have many people involved in the Cobra end any more. At least this was the case a while ago.

The Shelby web site still has a list of authorized dealers. (Again, the last I looked... Their site has gotten harder to navigate.)

When I spoke to Shelby American about some issues a client was having with his 6000 Series Shelby American advised me that they no longer have anything to do with Cobra production or distribution. Shelby American sold a licensing agreement to Superformance to become the manufacturer and supplier of CSX Continuation Series Cobras.
