289 side pipes
is this the side exhaust arrangement stock from shelby or is it the side pipe one ? or is it all race team specific ?

The 289 "side pipes" varied a lot by car and by event/timing. There are the "Nassau" type setup and other styles of sidepipes used on the FIA and USRRC cars.

One comment about side pipes. My car has pipes like the second car pictured in that the outlet is turned down about 30'. This cause a dust storm especially at a car show on grass. NOT a way to make friends. I have since replaced them with "real" mufflers. I have a pic of just the pipes on the floor but cannot upload it for some reason?

Most everyone wants to make their car look they "Way they were". Most definately at the expense of "Some" power. ...Header science was in its infancy in 1963 & 1964 when the 289 Cobra was being raced. The FIA and USRRC cars had sidepipes tucked under the door and this design mandated a very short primary header pipe, much like what is today called a Block Hugger type, the primaries were only about 10-12" in length. Very poor design by todays standards, but thats how it was. The picture of the 1st car shows the use of a more modern header with primary tube length (to develop & maintain torque) and then the pipe attaches to it and "Angles" towards the outside.

I know this post is old, but I'm wondering if CSX3018 could share where I might find the "print" mentioned for the system on CSX2345? My car had this style system on it in the 1960's and 1970's and then was scrapped so I'd like to recreate the system...Any help would be most appreciated...

Its possible CSX2345 is still at the Boulder museum. Maybe they can help.

#3: you sometimes forget to look at the date of the last post in a thread you are interested in. You click on the reply/respond button and inadvertently resurrect threads that are 5-15 years old. Most with outdated information, or asking for information from a specific end user, who may no longer be on the site, or in a worst case scenario, has passed away.
Sometimes, to bring up an old thread, hoping the OP or one of the participants will chime in, instead of starting a new, fresh thread, can be emotionally painful for some of the forum members, when they are then reminded of that members death.
That is the point I was making.
