Default CSX 3000 Exterior/Interior Color Code Analysis

Same-o-same-o.....this time a break down of the exterior/interior color codes for the CSX 3000 cars. The universe is quite small, given that the first 100 cars were shipped unpainted. This data is from AC and not SAI. The 100 S/C cars were eventually painted but they are not included here.

Exterior/Interior #units

Red/Black..........................75

Blue/Black.........................49

Green/Black...................... 51

Silver/Black........................27

Wht/Black..........................23

Black/Black........................19

Grey/Black.......................... 8

Vineyard Green/Black..........3

Silver Grey/Black..................1
Green/Red...........................1

Cal:

It would be interesting to know if your data further breaks down S/C vs. roadster, and stripe (color)/no stripe.

Since the S/C cars came from England unpainted, that data is unknown to AC. The Registry does indicate the color for some of the S/C cars but not for all of them. Sapphire Blue was a popular color. Some just indicate, "Blue". When time permits I will look at those cars.

I have a breakdown on all the S/C's and the color they were when they left SA... Since the Comp cars came bare from AC, the customer could specify whatever color they wanted and almost everyone was different.
Blues? ..Guardsman, Sapphire, Navy, Light Blue, Silver Blue, etc.

Several S/C's were painted Hertz Gold

One was finished in a Buick Silver-Green.
One went out Candy Apple Red
One went with Gulf Orange.

Only on CSX310x and up, did they standardize on colors.

CORRECTION:

Ron (Computerworks) correctly informed me that, in my original post, I stated 100 cars were shipped unpainted to SAI. What I forgot about was that there were 50 or so cars that were actually NEVER built; those being the so called "completion" cars that were assembled (a few anyway) in the 90s.

I believe there were actually 53 comp/SC cars completed. If I remember right it goes CSX3000-CSX3052. I believe Peter Bayer used CSX3042 for his Contemporary's molds. The SAAC registry would be the place to find the comp/SC numbers if I'm off base here.

Al:

You are probably correct. I was just ballparking the figure of some 50 odd cars.
