Default Mustang Production: 1965-69

A definite segment buster in the first few years. Notice the drop off in sales, as GM finally got around to launching their pony cars in 1967. Great numbers, though, throughout the decade.

I remember reading where someone indicated that the Mustang accounted for $2.1 billion (pretax) income through the end of 1969 for Ford. Those were the good old days.

It looks like '66 was the premier year with over 600,000 units being sold. '65 would include the 64 1/2 year production.

1965:

Anyone know what kind of cost increase there was to go from coupe to fastback?

It seemed you could get a 6 cyl fastback also. I would imagine it must have been a huge cost increase as...well, comon, who'd choose a coupe over a fastback?

One of the biggest reasons for the profit was they already had most of the tooling paid off since the basic chassis was Falcon based. (500,000 units in 1960)
