Default Added some Lake Garnett Race research

If anyone is interested in the Lake Garnett, Kansas race from July 7th, 1963 - I've added the Kansas City Star coverage of the race and the riot to my website. It was a lot of typing, I had to enlist my fast as the wind typing wife.

Enjoy, Chuck

Cool

Chuck, just read the article on the race and riot, makes good reading. Love all that old stuff, as for the riots ,must have been scary for the locals.
Also noticed that the newspaper put Detroit as Dave Macdonalds home town. Must be a mistake, i think he lived in California.

Default yeah, pretty facinating

Hey Paul,
Yes I think these local paper accounts are facinating. I should thank whomever suggested I look into them! Oh it was you Of course they take pictures of the wrong cars focus a bit too much on the human element. go figure

I've also added Road & Track articles on the Pacific GP and LA Times GP of 1963 to the King Cobra section in case you haven't read those. I'm still wondering what R&T issues would have coverage of the Kent Washington and Nassau King Cobra races. Would be nice to track them down too.

Later, Chuck

Cool

Hi Chuck, im fortunate enough to have both those R & T articles on your website but can,t help with the others you mention. Still have,nt been able to locate a picture of Ken Miles in a King Cobra at Pensacola in 64 either.
Here is a picture of the winning 1964 King Cobra model i made recently. It is in 1/43 scale. Sorry about the out of focus dodgy picture. Paul

Default Nice job

Nice Job Paul! I can imagine that scale is pretty small to work in.

For whatever reason, I'm more esthetically attracted to the '63 cars.

Nice job Chuck! Too bad the press didn't blow it all out of proportion like the Hollister incident. If they had, the Cobra crowd would be the !%'s and the Harley group would still be wearing those silly hats and bow ties!

Chuck,

That was a long, long time ago. I was at that race and remember the car ending up in the drink. I went down with a bunch of buddies from Independence because I was totally enamored with the Cobras at that time. But most of us left about 8:00 o'clock that night. It was summer after my sophmore year in high school and I still had a midnight curfew since I was only 14. I think that was the same year I went around the course in my buddy's MG Midget. A lot of us guys were hangers on to Bob Hindson's racing exploits back then.
