Well, I didn't really want to go into specifics and feel like a dirty little post whore. But I do think, at least from a marketing position, that having as many details regarding what is "correct" (paint, dash layouts, street -vs- S/C -vs- competition, and other basic appearance & mechanical items) would make the book a good reference to anyone building or buying a 427. It appears, to me anyway, that many people jump into building and/or buying these cars without necessarily much interest to their history or stories in the beginning. What I think they do hunger for first is accuarate reference material, then they'll delve into the history etc., once a plan has been set on course. Lord knows, I've seen horrible atrocites commited during builds that owners & buyers often later regret and have to do everything all over again simply because there just wasn't a good reference available that could knock any good sense into them. So, just basic stuff. Make sense, or is this just the scotch talking?

If they are buying a replica (including new Shelby Cobras) their concern should be the quality of the build (safety etc) not how exact it is to an original. Not much different then buying a glass or steel '32 Ford street rod.
And I guess the same can be said of someone building a car. Build it the way you like it, especially when one has no idea why the originals even existed.
Make sense?

I'll reserve comment, but no I don't necessarily agree.. I think you miss the point, for whatever odd & strange reason. You're assuming that people don't care about their histories and stories, or you don't want them to. Since people often do things, like buy a car, without reading every fricking $200 book & every forum out there, doesn't mean the outcome is what they intended when all is said and done. Apparently you have an issue with replicas otherwise you wouldn't make such snooty remarks as "especially when one has no idea why the originals even existed."

Count me in for two. One for me and one for my kids' school library. (Maybe if we all buy one for our kids' schools' libraries, it will inspire the kids and spark their passion. (Resulting in a better sellers' market down the road when we need to sell the cars in order to pay for college...)

Actually Mark IV has quite a bit of knowledge and really does not have a "snooty" bone in his body when it comes to replicas (although he can be a bit snooty to those with originals ) I believe you missed where he was coming from with his comments.........

If I missed your point, I apologize. I though I was commenting to your statement;
"It appears, to me anyway, that many people jump into building and/or buying these cars without necessarily much interest to their history or stories in the beginning."
If people are going to "jump" into buying a car that has been built/assembled by someone other than a (what should I call them) major manufacturer of finished vehicles their first concern should be the quality of the build, not whether the car has wheels or rivots that match an original car. (Perhaps I shouldn’t have left the word ‘first’ out.)
Again, if one is building a car and has no interest in the history of the original cars, build it the way you like keeping the quality/safety issue in mind. This would be the same approach as building a resto rod using a repro body/chassis.

Maybe we mis-read each other. Apologies here too. My main point was there ought to be a good reference simply because there isn't one.

Trevor,
Perhaps a "cooffee table book"? You know, like Kramer made with fold-out legs?
