Default Header and tire fit issues

Guys,

I just placed my 427 in the frame and now that ride is set I have two issues. My headers poke out a little ahead of the cut out in the body, and the front tires rub when I turn the steering over far to right or left. Overall tire diameter is 25". Could you guys let me know if you have had similar issues, and what your tire diameter is and if you have had problems with rubbing??

Thanks

Romanbuilt

Default header fit

I had the same header problem when assembling my Cobra! The drivers side cutout was in a different location than the passenger side cutout. (Too far to the front) The difference was about an inch an a half!
I did some fiberglass work by cutting out an 1 1/2" in the rear and then fiberglassed the front of the cutout to match the other side. It took a little while but it turned out looking just right!
Another idea is that if you cutouts are in the same position on the body, you may have to tweak the headers a bit by mounting them to the engine and then moving the tubes whatever direction they need to be moved. Also not very difficult but will take a little effort!
I did not have tire interference issues other than ride height.

I had similiar problem with rubbing full left or right steering. Ride height was within an 1/8th inch all around and car was level so
I just marked the interference on the inner wheel well, cut out
a 4inch by 4inch section and moved it back 1 inch and reglassed it all. Seems fine now.

Default I have problems out back!

Mine has issues with the right rear tire rubbing. If I went to a smaller tire, it'd probably be OK. I am looking at alternatives now...I might be able to "shave" a little of the glass in the inner fender and get the clearance since it is pretty thick.

check to make sure that you have the right and left headers on the proper side.
