Question Mobil1 0W-30 Racing Oil w Lots of ZDP

Mobil1 is now producing a 0W-30 racing oil. This stuff has 1800 PPM Phosphorous (ZDP). It is not recommended for street use (probably due to the high levels of ZDP and Moly). The stuff is very pricey but would offer great protection for those of us with flat tappet engines. I spoke with a Mobil guy at the end of the phone and he would not comment too much on the level of detergent in the product.

My question is this - is anyone out there using this product and are you having any issues with sludge?

Bob

Racing oil usually contains low levels of detergents as racing engines are used for short, intense periods and then the oil is changed after a few hundred miles or after each race. I use Mobil 0-40 in the winter, which according to the Mobil 4/7/09 spec. says, 1000 PPM Phos. and 1100 PPM Zinc. I do not know the ZDDP levels.

The 0W-40 (1,000 PPM) does not have near the Phosphorous (ZDDP) levels of the 0W-30 (1,800 PPM) racing oil.

I dont know of any street engine oil that contains that much zddp. How do you know that flat tappets require that much? Also, you can purchase zddp additive from zddp plus... somehwere on the internet. 8 oz. is good for 8 qts. of oil...
