Is it real???

I crunched some numbers on this interesting product from Japan. I think it works out to around $12,000 for the special and required spraying tools and the various chemicals (consumables) you have to use. This is for about 1.3 gallons. OUCH!!!

Surely, I must have miss calculated the Yen to dollar numbers??? If not, is this chrome or gold were talking about?

It appears this spray system draws from THREE pots, three hoses, to a single sprayer for shooting the stuff.

Pretty amazing.

Here is another company, in the US, that supplies some really amazing paint, including the same "type" of chroming systems. I have used their rattle cans once and it worked out very nice, just as advertised. Expensive, but certainly less than real plating.

And in my case, we "chromed" a fiberglass grill insert on a special design car. It looked just like the factory vapor deposited chrome crap on newer car plastic grills. Clear coated it with polyurethane and it still looks perfect 4 years later. But, as they say, your results may vary. Mine seem to from project to project anyway.

and another one.

Interesting stuff, but obviously not a replacement for chrome. This is probably what Holley uses for their Durashine, which they state has a clear coat over the shining agent.

Bringing this back up because I am in the process of setting up a shop for Cosmichrome. This is the real deal. GM uses them, among other big companies.
If it is applied 100% correct you will have good results if you don't you won't.
Room temp, humidity, water quality everything has to be perfect. I hope to be able to report back by late fall early winter 2011. Environmental issues are a problem also. I'm working on it. Going through about 50 pages of MSDS sheets now.
