Default Gasket between 9" 3rd member and housing

My Richmand Gear rebuild kit came with a thin cork gasket, to put between the rear end housing and the 3rd member. Considering the torque in a rear end, it seems to me that this gasket must take a pounding. I'm thinking of leaving the gasket out and using a sealant like "The Right Stuff." However leaving the gasket out will set the 3rd member an 1/8" or so deeper into the housing.

Anyone done this?

Advice Please.

There are some very good gaskets availabe for this application. They are made of a very heavy fiber type paper with rubber beads around the perimeter, and "claim" to be reusable.

Rick are you against just using the sealant with no gasket?

It's a rubber gasket that "fills in" irregularities on the housing or pumpkin. I use "Right Stuff" on the housing side, and bare on the pumpkin. I do not use synthetic gear oil, so it doesn't leak. It's a reusable gasket in case you goofed up on something.

Oops .... this is for a Ford 9".

Won't matter a bit.
