Question Holman Moody

I am currently looking for an experienced shop to set up a 427 with Webers. My thinking was a race shop that has experience with vintage Mustangs or Cobras that can set up the whole package:i.e. the carbs, the ignition, the valves, the valve springs. They need to be able to diagnose the whole package and set it up for optimal output. Since I live in No. VA I was looking into the Mid- Atlantic first. Holman Moody in Charlotte has come up and I have contacted them by email. Lee Holman has called back and left a message.

What I wanted to know was whether anyone here has had any experience with Lee Holman and his shop and would you recommend them.

Thanks for the opinions.

Friend of mine is just about ready to go pick up his 427 side oiler with the fuel injection system that looks similar to webers. H & M has set up the whole thing top to bottom. In fact the man who built his engine is the same on who was setting up the 427's way back when. He's been there over 40 years! Have met Lee Holman and he is a heck of a nice guy. I don't think you can go wrong with Holman & Moody. Broke...maybe, wrong...no.

Default H & M

Rumor has it they use to know a little bit about racing...If they were closer to Tulsa I would have used them.

Zimmy,

I have been thinking about putting some 44 IDFs on my 351W. I understand they are a little easier to set up and live with than the 48 IDAs, but I still am a bit leery of getting into the whole Weber deal considering posts like yours. So I have a couple of questions:

Did you get the set up from Inglese by any chance?
What type of problems have you run into?
Is it that no one in the D.C. area has a clue about how to set them up?
If you hadn't already made the investment, would you do it over again?

Thanks for your time-- allen

Default qualified or not...

Well, let's see. These guys were a huge part of Ford's 1960's Total Performance campaign. Many NASCAR Grand National victories, GT40 development and preparation, off-road racer prep., etc. That's like asking if Carroll Shelby knows anything about Cobras. I wouldn't be surprised if the 427 wasn't modified/redesigned to their specs as time went on. If H-M isn't qualified, then no one is.
