Now the question is, will they build it in production with the same 500hp 5.4 32v supercharged engine they had in the concept car. The press release made no mention of the engine.

Default Hmmmm.....

...now on Car and Driver television this past weekend, they discussed the GT40 concept and said it had no chance of making it into production.

...so if the 'powers that be' say its true and will be built, I want to see it use the same drivetrain (as Cobra Ed questions) as well as keep the price tag at $100K.

Guaranteed the price blooms if its ever made.

This is great news, I think? Hope we don't go down lawsuit road again.... The price Ford ultimately announces for the car will have a heck of a lot to do with whether this car will truly be an answer to the Viper, primarily, and the Z06, to a more limited extent. If the new GT40 comes out in the $150,000+ range, it'll be in a whole other league as far as the marketplace is concerned. More like a Ferrari 360 Modena or Porsche GT3. I'd really like to see Ford take a direct shot at the former, rather than latter, market. As it stands right now, I may well be buying a 2001 Z06 soon, and, when I run it at NorCal SAAC open track events, I'll put the following on the rear: "If Ford made one, I'd buy it!"

I have to ask why it would cost so much in the first place. Its not going to be a plush thing and hell even the mustangs don't reach fifty grand and they are more car than the GT 40 will be. ( feature wise)

If they go out past the 100G mark they can forget market share. It won't be a contender for the bang for your buck Z06 it may be the answer to the viper though as it reaches skyward each year in price.

Chev trashcanned the firebirds and camaros so there will be a bunch of people waiting to buy into the corvette

15 or 20 grand more than the top notch SS camaros & firehawks and you can have a corvette.....Now who the hell is Ford aiming at?? If its rich collectors then they might as well build a limited number and let the market find its price level. Too bad if it does get out of reach for the average enthusiasts.
