Default 302 starter

My 302 Windsor, has a starter with a solenoid on the side. The problem is that the terminal that takes the main feed from the relay fouls the chassis rail and I have had to remove it (the terminal, not the chassis rail!!)
I understand that the solenoid on the side triggers the starter to engage and I will have to link two of the termonals, but can anyone see any problems....and if so suggest any solutions.
Thanks
Oh, by the way I'm in the UK

Simon,
I don't quite understand what you have done, or are asking us. By "fouled" do you mean "interferes with"?
Cheers,
Steve R
PS, Could you post some pictures of the situation?

Sounds like a tight squeeze if the starter solenoid hits the frame. I've never had much faith in OEM Ford starters, changed too many of them. Got a Powermaster (#9162), ~$150 US from Summit (summitracing.com). This unit fits the 157 tooth flywheel/302 bellhousing. 1/3 the size & weight of the Ford piece, should give you more clearance. Not sure how one obtains US made parts in UK, but I do know getting UK made parts in US is pretty easy. Look up a guy named Wayne Roper at europaspares.com and see if he can help.
