Keith,

Great pictures. The 195 is a great ship. Does it have the crosswind gear? I hope not. Great in theory, but lousy in parctice.

20 years ago I completely restored a Boeing Stearman, Different than the 195 in that the wings are made of wood, sort of like a giant model ariplane! And the Stearman is fabric covered. It had a P&W 985 c.i. 9 cylinder 450 h.p. 25 gph brute on it. Tons of fun and lots of noise. A Cobra in the sky!!

Looks like your Dad is getting down to the short strokes. Thanks for the views.

Bish,

A Stearman! Oh man, that's sweet! Having grown up around airplanes, I'm pretty familiar with most of them. Especially the dream machines like Stearmans, Waco's, and of course the Warbirds of various design. The Corsair (sp?) was always my favorite. You should fly your Stearman down to Jasper (JZP) sometime. Dad keeps his Luscombes there (he's a true taildragger pilot) and can be found there on most occasions.

I do believe the 195 has the crosswind gear. I agree that somebody was smoking something when they came up with that idea.

Hey Keith,

This is way too cool. Does your dad want to adopt another son?

If I had to vote for my favorite old civilian aircraft it would be a Beech Stagger wing.............radial engine and lines to die for!!!

Military wise, gotta be a P-38, the fork tailed devil!

You wouldn't like either the Beech or the P-38. Neither one has a FORD for power.

Hi Keith,

I worked for the Pittsburgh Institute or Aeronautics as an Instructor and I still have my FAA A&P licenses. Looks like a great project. A side benefit of the doping process when you get to the control surfaces is that you will never again need to have anybody sew something for you and unless you wear total breathing protection you get a great buzz from the fumes.

These thing really go together easier than it looks, the IA inspections along the way and implementation of the correct AD notes are the real iussues.

Have fun, enjoy the project, better yet enjoy doing it with your Dad......
