Can powder-coating be wet-sanded?

Can you wet-sand and buff something that's been powder-coated (like my chassis) the same as you could for something that's been painted?

Hey, I gotta find something to make the time fly while the car's being painted.

Powder coating can be scratched so it not the hardest thing on earth. Wet sanding is really just polishing, and since you can polish anything, I would bet that you could wet sand powder-oating it just might take longer; or some other differentiation from wet sanding a painted surface. Try it, let us know what happens.

Remember that the thickness of coating is dependant on the skill of the person who applies it, just like paint. There may be areas of minimal thickness. Since there's no primer, the first indication that you've gone too far is the appearance of bare metal - or worse yet, rusting metal.

I scratched one of my powder-coated valve covers. I sucessfully got the scratch out by wet sanding and polishing. Still, I'd try a small, out of sight area on your frame before you try doing large portions.

You will want to use a 1500 or 2000 grit paper.

Anyone tried sand blasting it right off? That's what I'm looking to try.
