What kind of animal is it???
To make a long story short I bought a cobra replica about a month ago. The previous owner did not know what company built the car and I am also unsure of the origin. Does anyone know or can give me direction as to how I might find out where this car came from. It is registered as a 1966 Shelby Cobra. Did the manufacturers somehow mark the car somewhere?
ANY help would be appreciated. I don't mean to be so vague in my description but thats all I have. It has Stewart-Warner gauges, a 302, 4 speed, a Ford nine inch, discs in front and drums in the rear. Thanks Lar |

yes it does have a "perky butt", maybe not as nice as my sister-in-law, but ....... One think I just noticed- the engine is mounted way back. The leading edge of the water pump is actually behind the front hubs. It is a narrow body with 2-3" flares on the fenders. The hood does not have a scoop. It has the retangular Lucas taillights. It had the wire wheels when I bought it but I changed them to the early American Torque-thrust wheels. (looks good) The side louvers are glasses into the inner fenders with no easy way to remove them. It has the Pinto-Mustang front but the rack and pinion has been narrowed somewhat. The snout seems to tilt a little bit towards the groung(it that makes sense) Thanks for the imputs Larry |

I paid 34,500 and have put about 3500.00 more into the heads, ignition, tires and wheels, wiring etc. I may have paid 2-3000 too much, but it is a pretty car. Larry |
Probably not a CMC for that price (I hope). Keep on giving us little bits of info. and we will tell you what it is.

How long did the guy have the car for before you purchased it? Could he give you the name of the person he bought it from? I find it hard to believe that he didn't know the manuacturer of this car. |

My car looks almost exactly like the light blue cobra in the first picture. The only difference that I can see is the blue car has a mirror on the driver's side front fender, mine doesn't. My frame is square, not round. My wheel base is approximately 90 inches(center of hub to center of hub) and the widest part of the car, at the doors is about 57" |

Thank you for your imputs. As I mentioned to Brent my car is a clone of the first car in a series of three pictures he sent to me. (the light blue one without a hood scoop, and the wire wheels) I don't have a roll bar and in looking the car over and then comparing with the rollbar set-up that Finish Line offers, I don't see how I could use their bar as my gas tank filler tube sits in the center of the area behind the cockpit. I am stumped as to the origin of this car. It would make matters a lot easier in ordering parts if I knew who the manufacturer was. I did put in another call for some answers to the guy I bought the car from, indirectly, but have not received a reply. One thing I have noticed is the car is very well-mannered in city traffic around 35-50 mph. Once you get on the freeway above 75mph it is a different story. The car wanders and has a STRONG tendency to overcorrect. Other than the above it is perfect. Please try and respond while am still alive. Thanks Larry |
If you do not want to spend 275, get a throw away with flash. Take the pictures and have walmart double develop with a disk or cd. (About $12. for the service and $6. for the camera.)

Assuming the car is fiberglass it could be North American Fiberglass. They used rectangular box tubing for the 90" WB frame and they were one of the few to make a 289 Body, they also used Mustang II front suspension and steering. Very few slabside replica makers throughout the years. Does the steering column have the key that inserts in the column itself, is it a Ford key?
