Question Suspension Recomendations

I'd like to adjust my suspension. My SPF has the AVO adjustables. I'd like to upgrade to the full race triple adjustable Koni setup, but around $900 PER SHOCK is a bit overdoing it considering the car isn't driven that much except for on the track. I would upgrade to the Bilstein setup that most of the newer SPF's come with, but am wondering if there is something in between the full race Koni setup and the Bilsteins. Would I also need to change springs for stiffer a setup ??

The Avo's are just so damm bouncy and mushy - a firmer yet smoother ride is what I'd like...Possible ???

Hi Agro,

I have AVO coilovers on my Cobra and they have an adjustment knob on the bottom that is a combined compression/rebound adjustment. There are about 20 clicks on the knob and the range of damping change seems quite good (although I'm only pushing the suspension up and down on my rolling chassis).

Looking at them they are a double tube non gas filled shock and can be rebuilt. There should be a suspension/shock specialist near you that can rebuild them with heavier oil. Many of the good shops have a shock dyno they can put your shock in to test it. From there they should be able to change your damping rates on compression/rebound to specifically suit your application.

Cheers

The Olthoffs offer Bilsteins with coils that are adjustable like the Koni. Price is about 1k for the 4 corners. I thinking of changing mine from the AVO to their set up. I had a problem with the AVO breaking.

Are you sure the Bilsteins are adjustable >? At $1000 that sounds like a pretty good deal...Gotta give Dennis a call...Thanks for the post.

Best $800.00 I have spent updating SPF 314 was to get the Bilsteins. The car rides/handles much much better.

You will be amazed at how much better the bilsteins ride than the AVO's
