Angry New Helmet-Bad Smell?

Hey guys,

I just got a new Bell M2 Helmet in the mail. It has a really strong chemical smell eminating from I guess the lining. I have bought Motorcycle helmets in the past an have never noticed anything like this. This sucker nearly makes me pass out if I get within 3 feet of it. Is this normal and will it "air out" or do I have a problem?

Thanks,

John.

What you don't like that "new motorcycle smell"

If you can smell it, it is a gas, and should de-gass with time. Never heard of this one though. A quick email or phone call to the manufacturer is not out of line.

Mr Fixit, Thanks, I'll give it a few days and then give Bell a call.

Mike, Although I'm not an "Official" Gashole, My wife would tell you that I can hold my own. I'm pretty sure this time it's the Helmet though.

Agro, I'm not sure a buzz and 500 HP mixes too well.

Thanks guys,

JB

Kinda reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with the Valet who has really bad B.O. The smell just sort of took on a life of its own...

Jerry: Boy, do you smell something?
Elaine: Do I smell something? What am I, hard of smelling? Of *course* I smell something!
Jerry: What is it?
Elaine: I think it's B.O.!
Jerry: What?
Elaine: It's B.O. The valet must have had B.O.
Jerry: It can't be. Nobody has B.O. like this.
Elaine: Jerry. It's B.O.
Jerry: But the whole car smells.
Elaine: So?
Jerry: So when somebody has B.O., the "O" usually stays with the "B". Once the "B" leaves, the "O" goes with it!

In "The Smelly Car"

Maybe the helmet test guy infected it!

Bannon-
I have had the same problem before. If it doesn't go away in a couple days on its own, I've found that balling up some newspaper in the helmet and letting it sit for a few days usually works.

Whatever you do, don't breathe deep near a gashole

Default That is why....

you take your chances when you purchase goods from "Road Serpents". Their charter members are all just a bunch of gasholes!
