Don't sandblast you could distort the body and cause you more problems. Bead blast if you must.
Epoxy primers are everywhere automotive paint is sold about $70 gal plus about $30 for the catalyst and I like to use a yellow color so when I do put the primer on I am and blocking it out again I know how deep I am going. I love that hand sanding!
Be sure and clean you paint gun and equipment with lacquer thinner as soon as you finish with your painting otherwise after a couple hours your paint gun will be junk. At $200-to over $1000 for a paint gun it would make that primer coat very expensive.
