How much did you spend on your paint job?

i wonder if there is a possible difference in what paint is used. On the earlier cars that Superformance made, mine being about 3.5 years old, it is a Glasurit paint, i don't even know if it has a clear coat, as i don't really understand paint anyway. I repaint my sports cars back in the '60's with lacquor, as i didn't have to worry about a run, as it dried so fast. Just rub any mistakes out. I did not keep the cars long enough to worry about fade. I believe the later SPF cars are a DuPont, but i am not sure.

But while my car sleeps at night in my garage, guarded by Abby, my trusty Weimerainer, it is baked by the hot SC sun every day at work and play. I do wash it carefully very often, and use the Griot's Speed Shine after the wash, to put back a tiny bit of wax i just washed off. And i do wax it fairly frequently, it is small and quick to do. I use the Griot's was, but i am sure there are other good ones too, it just dusts off easily. I am careful with my wash and wax rags, too.

But after thousands of hours in the sun, my red/white stripe car gleams like it was painted yesterday. The paint is flawless and i think stunning, for the age and color of the car. Lots of small stoen chips down low on the front, but that is not an issue for me. So i think much of a good paint job is how you take care of it afterwards. I don't know if the Glasurit is a superior paint or not, but mine looks as good as the new DuPont (?) ones that come from South Africa do. I think much of the paint is a reflection of the body prep beneath it, so maybe it is even more important to prep the car than anything else.

All i can say, that done right the first time, a fiberglass car can sit in the sun and rain day after day, and still look fabulous.
