Default Glove box dimensions

OK Guys.....Tape measures out....

I know one of you kind gents can help me with this one....

What are the dimensions of the 427 Glove box doors??

What I need to know is the large end Radius or Diameter, the small end Radius or diameter and the distance between the centres or overall length.

While I'm at it, what sort of handle should be on it also??

Hi gumball. I have taken a number of measurements off of various original cars and here is my best approximation : Large radius is 6.5" and small radius is 4" , total length is 17". The bottom is straight from "circle to circle" while the top is curved in parallel with the curve of the top of the dash/cowl. The trick is where is the glove box located ? Again , my best approximations from measurements taken : the big end is 6" from the vertical centerline of the dash and the bottom is 1" up from the bottom of the dash, resulting in about 1" between the top of the glove box curve and the cowl curve.
You will notice I use approx and about. Cars seem to vary + or - 1/8" and it depends on the thickness of the dash cover and welting used on the edge of the door.
Furthermore , every replica is slightly different so a match with an original car will be at best approx.
The handle is available from Bill and Marge at Motorsports International , although many cars have been refitted it a locking pushbutton mechanism.
If you send me you mailing address , I could send you a paper template.
Cheers
Greg

Default Glove Box

Gumball,

Attached is a link to a FFR post which has some glove box door dimensions. The overall dimension seems to be less than the last post , but the hinge design and locking mechanism is somewhat unique. It would be good to hear from some other owners on their overall dimensions and designs.

Confirmed my dimensions again today at lunchtime off an original 427 street roadster with the street roadster guage layout in for work at a local shop. But then again, replicas from manufacturer to manufacturer are all different as to dashboard dimensions as are guage placements. This coupled with what is in the way on the dark side of the dash WILL determine the right size for each individual glove box.
Measure twice. I take that back - measure many times. Cut once.
