Touching up ceramic coating on side pipes

I acquired a small battle scar after the races at VIR. While loading the car back on the trailer, I slipped a little on the wet surface and my header pipe made contact with the side rails of the trailer putting a 6 inch long, very thin scratch along the header pipe. It's not dented and it appears to be NOT down to bare metal but the coating is a little charded along the scratch line. I thought about a ceramicoat style product sold by JC Whitney for @$30 per quart. Curious if anyone has had any sucess with this product or one similar to it. My pipes are silver ceramic, and the whitney product looks to be a similar color. Seems like the plan would be to clean the surface and then using an artist brush, fill in the line, let it air dry, heat cure it, and then finely sand it with 600 or even 1000 paper. Appreciate any help out there.

I think you may be right agro. When watching some of the shelby programs, they always mention that you can tell the difference between real ones and replicas by how rough around the edges the car is. Well, we know it's not SAI, but a little bit of personality can go a long way. Touching it up might just make it look worse. When I bought the car, it had a chip far down on the spoiler. I never once thought about repairing it, I think it has to do with having inflicted the scar myself. I really like driving it, can't get to crazy about every little blemish, life's way too short. The one cool thing about VIR Spring 2003 was that despite the dismal weather, 64 cobras still managed to slosh around the wet track, nobody cared that their cars were taking on water! Hell, it's not going to rust and yes, it will dry out!

Indeed - there is a big difference in fixing stuff when you totally thrash it, but normal wear and tear should be carried without guilt - I plan on repainting it in a couple years anyway...I love the fact the whimpy Porsche owners called it quits when it started pouring - guess those C4's and Turbo's have 4wd for nuthin

I would have loved to have been there man - I have been following the progress at VIR since they redid it and would love to run that track, however, I'm in California...Oh well, guess sunny weather 340 days a year is the trade-off
