Dual Quad question
I'll soon be installing a Blue Thunder 2x4 manifold on my 460, I already purchased the 427 style progressive linkage and im not sure if the universal holley 600 #1850 will except this linkage as properly intended. I see that Carl's Ford Parts sells 427 holley repros that will except the linkage but at double the cost, these carbs are not in the holley catalog so im somewhat skeptical. So all you dual quad guy's out there what carbs are you using with the 427 progressive linkage.

I had a pair of 1850's on progressive linkage before I changed to a pair of 450 4160's (forget the number) Wasn't a problem because the geometry for most of these 4160's is the same.

If i;m not mistaken , the carb's from Carl's are a special factory run of exact reproductions of the 60's peices. David and Paul are correct , 1850's are probably the most common substitution for the hard to find and $$$ originals. you will want to purchase the original style vacuum secondary caps with the fitting to accept an inter connecting hose (makes sure your secondaries are balanced)

You're right KK about the caps. Also as an option, Holley makes a set of quick-change secondary diaphram caps with the vacuum nipples that are much cheaper than the original type. Readily available from Summit, etc.

Thanks guy's for the reply's. At least I know I have a choice between the 1850 600's and the special run 427 carbs.
I haven't seen many setups with the balance hose between the diaphrams but since there attainable I'll check into that.
Do you guy's run an electric choke on the front carb and remove the choke plate from the rear ???

The original set up had no plate in the rear carb. the front was set up with a mechanical choke. I think most guys dont run one at all.

KK, so what you saying is you run both carbs without a choke plate.

No, not quite, My car does happen to have an original set with a mechanical choke. I was just noting that many (if not most) of the guys I have spoken with and most of the setups I've seen are without any choke at all. Admittedly I am mostly interested in old FE stuff, so the 385 series crowd may commonly use the electric choke....I dont know..
