Default 351 Cleveland timing

Any one know what ignition timing would be a good starting point for an open chamber 4V cleveland motor?
Thanks
Rick

I run about 12 initial and have the advance come in quick, it adds a little bottom end .

Hi-
I starting at 14 initial ,36 total---MSD BILLET ,mechanical advance.
No problems -redlining at 7500.Screams all the way to the top.
HOWEVER- all depends on cam, carb, manifold, compression, bottom end setup(2 bolt,4 bolt),bearing clearances, everything that makes a complete package--all trial and error on my part to get
where I am now.(351C,4V,open chambers)

I'm running 38 total and it's in a '70 Boss 302, which is considerably heavier than a Cobra.

Run as much timing as your engine can stand. Trial and error. Keep advancing the timing until it pings under acceleration, then back off just enough to stop the pinging. It doesn't really matter what the numbers are, just keep it for future reference. These Clevelands like as much timing as you can safely screw into them.

Default Thanks

I bumped it up to about 36. It seems much happier!
