Heat coating sidepipes - damage

Hi all



I need some advice regarding 'HPC' heat coating side pipes.

I have just finished a new set of side pipes and want to coat them to match the rest of the HPC heat treated exhaust.

I have used steel wool to wrap the inner 2 1/4" pipe doing so in an electrical tape style of wrapping. I have then inserted this in an outer 4" pipe welding it all up.

However, I was just told that the heat treating at 360c or about 750f may burn the steel wool. The wool is an industrial type of wool supplied by an exhaust supplier in a large roll.

Neither ther supplier or the heat coaters can offer a guarantee or a solution.

Short of pulling them apart and coating them, less the inner pipe, I thought someone may have had a similiar experience.

The heat coating did not alter the first set of pipes I had coated, but they were fibreglass packed.

The coating is sprayed on prior to be placed in the oven so the coating will not get into the inner pipe or steel wool.



Will the HPC coating burn the steel wool inside?
