Default New to Cobra

Could someone recommend a kit maker... I am looking at the Factory Five group and I am new to this.. I am looking to build a Cobra with my son... The Factory five group has a MKII and a new model MKIII to select from... any help would be welcomed.

There are about four dozen manufacturers. Can you give us some help here to at least steer you in the direction you are looking for? Budget, personal capabilities, desired use, important features, resources, etc.

I am by no means familiar with all of the manufacturers. But there are folks here that are. You can also ask questions in the manufacturers forums and there is lots of reading to be had from the past using the search function.

Looking to build the car with my son during spare time, learn a lot, hopefully have some fun and enjoy the car on weekend drives. My budget would be within the 25 + or - range.. I just haven't done enough research to be exact. I still need to research North Carolina registration and insurance... Like I said, learn a lot.... thanks again..

This is always a good question. Your budget amount will determine a lot. My advice is to spend a lot of time looking at various cars, talking to owners, and to the factory people. I don't think you said you were going to build it yourself. If you do go that way, ask the mfrs for names of guys in your area who have built or are building their cars. If your budget allows, visit the kit car show at Knott's (Buena Park CA) at the end of April or the big show in Carlisle, PA in May (I think I have the dates right).

Good timing. I was in exactly your position in the Fall of 2002 when my Shell Valley kit was delivered. My son is 19 now and he's been great with helping to build it. My budget was also $25k but I have right at $28k in it now without paint. I'm driving the car as of mid-January. I could have spent a little less by doing a few things differently. I also could have bought a completed, painted car for under $30k. But I wanted the build experience as if sounds like you do. Good luck.
