Default Pin-Drive Questions

Not having ever seen one off the car, I was wondering just how pin-drive knock-off hubs work.

1. Are both the weight of the car and the drive born by the pins or does the tower in the middle play some part in locating the wheel (more than just clamping it to the hub). Put another way, is there anything more than a clearance fit between the tower and the wheel?

2. Is the wheel completely alloy or are there any steel sleeves such as where the pins locate?

The center hub section is precision cast to a conical shape which mates the wheel. The pins carry the rotational load while the hubs support the directional loads, g forces etc.

Wheels are alloy, aluminum or magnesium but can be any material, carbon fiber steel etc. Alloy wheels use no sleeve as there is no (theoretically no) movement between the pin and the wheel face.

Thanks for the rapid response!

Would I be right in thinking that the wheel is a light interference fit on the conical shaped hub then and when you tighten the spinner if pulls up tight on the cone and the hub face?

Would someone mind telling me (roughly) what the id of the spinner is. Are they all the same or do different makes of wheel and adapter vary?
