What to use for a sealant????

Had some new metal welded onto my oil pan...On the outside it is nice and smooth, however on the inside, there is an open lip where new and old meet. What should I use to seal around it to keep sludge from building up in the crevice?? Thanks in advance, Earl

I'd be inclined to take a grinder to it to smooth it out. Otherwise, J.B.Weld or a similar epoxy would do just fine.

If you can't run a weld bead on it, grind it down and clean the pan thouroughly. Otherwise I would refrain from putting ANY type of sealant inside that would be exposed to oil and temperture as is may not stick, then it would potentially get in the oiling system and cause some damage. Be sure to clean ALL of the grinding grit out of the pan.

Rick is right. I have three pans from my own experiments that I was afraid to use... because I had sealent in them when done.

You also do not want TIG sticks. They break off and end up in the engine. This is a bad thing.
