Default Fiberglass question

I'm looking for a source for a flat sheet (approximately 1/8" to 3/16" in thickness) of fiberglass. I only need a couple of 12" square pieces, since it would be easier to cut and glass-in pre-made pieces. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Make your own very easy to do. Wax a sheet of aluminum the size you need. A couple of times with a good car paint wax. Not as good as mold release but it will work fine. Be sure to let dry/out gas after buffing at least 1 hour before applying resin & mat.
Use a good resin ISO or Vynal Ester. Mix resin and paint with a brush= apply 1 or 2 oz mat and wet out with brush, = give it 1 to 2 min. to disolve glue on mat and then work all air out of area. = when cured or about 1 hour latter = repeat above until desired thickness... 1/8 thickness will take 2 or 2 applications of 2 oz mat. Final layer if you want a smooth surface should be cloth applied right on top of last mat layer and before it starts to cure.
Trim with an 1/8 metal cutoff wheel on a grinder to go through like butter. remove from alum. before cutting.
Sand between layers if more than 48 hours between coats. Use wax agent of finish resin on final layer if not covering with more glass

Depending on what you are doing will determine type of resin needed. strictlypersonl had a good source I did not think of but if not one in your area, for general use about any type works and is less expensive. also try Home Depot, Ace Hardware. If doing body repair I would use a more expensive but better resin. This is to avoid shrinkage with time and heat, cracking and provide better strength. For body repair a source would be to do search on local yellow pages in business section. Look in the catagory of RESIN, AUTOMOTIVE MATERIALS PAINTS. What are you building anyway?
By the way if you get real itchy from sanding and grinding a Wives Tale that works is oatmeal. it really does work! Get an old tube sock and put a big handfull of any uncooked oatmeal in the sock. Tie the end in a knot so it does not fall out and then wash/scrub area with it. Rotate hot to cold in the shower during process to open and close your pores. This works if exposed too fiberglass insulation in the attic also!

Jeff,

Thanks for the nudging. I wasn't able to find fiberglass sheet goods, so I took your advice and made my own. Was a piece of cake and is already installed. Much faster than waiting for a delivery (haven't tried the oatmeal hint, but will keep it in mind).

John
