Ok - the cap is missing - do I get the prize?

Had the motor been running for many miles?

Was it pulled apart because of a problem - eg vibration? low oil pressure?

whats the whole story?

It appears like the rear main seal is missing and there is fresh coolant in the oil, although it may just be the lighting. I'll give you credit for the main cap. BTW if those washers on the flywheel bolts are not a hardened washer, replace them with some that are. They look like typical Star washers which are bad news in that application. Just my 2 cents worth.

Is it something to do with an oil pick up and dry sump pipes?

These pictures are of a Cobra I am considering. The fact that these shots exist have me concerned. I posted them here to see if anyone could pick anything out that didn't look right.

or perhaps the greenish tint is just flouro dye added to the oil to find the leak, which turned out to be the rear main, which would necessitate removing the pan and rear cap.

Looks like a forged crank and decent rods

Agree with Mr. Fixit's observation. The guy knew what he was doing insofar as the engine is concerned. Add a Canton roadrace oil pan, judging from the oil pickup.

Worth fixing, and serious consideration.

Got any more details?

No more details yet. I had emailed the seller some questions one of them being, when were these shots taken and what was the reason for having the pan off. You can see that the engine was still in the car. The seller has not answered the questions yet.

1. It looks like there are no rear main journal cap and seal
2. Looks like there is a twisted and/or broken piston rod.
3. Coolant in the oil.
4. 1st pic looks like the oil pickup is not connected to the oil pump.

Funny you say about the broken or twisted rod. I was looking at that also - or is it the camera angle??

Don't you guys know anything?
It's the "newest" thing.. You leave one main cap off and you can reduce internal engine friction by 20%.. It's always the best to leave the rear main cap off, that way when the driveline bounches around during rough driving then the crank has some "give" to it...
And I thought I was a mechanical idiot! GEESE!
