Default Blue sidepipes

I have a 427so with stainless steel sidepipes. Is there any way to keep the headers from turning blue?

Enjoy the blue. It means you actually run the car.

You may be able to polish the blue off, but I do not think you can prevent it.

I have polished SS headers & side pipes and have successfully used "Blue Away" and the Wenol "Red" & "Blue" products to keep the headers and pipes free of heat discoloration and chrome-like in appearance. The pipes are not much effort... the headers are very difficult to get at properly.

remove headers and send them to Jet Hot...ask for the sterling coating...run about $250...no discoloration...guaranteed!

Thanks for all your help. I might try the Blue away, but I think jet hot might be the way to go.

Mr Vinylman,

Now I don't know if this is the truth, but when I lived in the UK about 12 yrs ago, I read in one of the kitcar magazinesthat you can literally pour and/or dip your pipes' interior with regular 30 weight oil, clean off the outsides of the pipes and then re-install and go driving as you usually do. They will smoke up a storm for awhile and then after the oil has "burned in", the interior of the pipes will be coated in a very thick carbon residue that is supposed to act as an heat insulator that results in little or no bluing at all.

Urban legend?? foolspeak?? does it work?? It sounds plausible.... That one person in the kitcar magazine said it did.
