opinions on cordless impact wrench

Hey all,

I'm thinking about buying a Cordless impact and I don't know much about them. I'll be using it for mostly changing wheels at the track and some mechanical work. I want a good unit in the 150.00 to 200.00 range. Should I get 12 or 14 volt

I've got the Milwaukee 18 volt 1/2" drive, lots of power, but I NEED the second battery before the day is over at the track. I usually break loose the lug nuts first and then impact them off because that dramatically increases the battery time. Seems to me I paid about $350 with the charger and extra battery.

DON'T EVER let the battery fully discharge, even one time will kill it forever.

Would I get that one again? Hmmmm,,,,, probably not. I THINK I would look at a DeWalt unit because of the much larger variety of options the batterys fit. Pretty limited with Milwaukee. But with Milwaukee I feel VERY confident the wrench is the highest quality and will last a long long time. Tough call what to get, but DO get the highest voltage you can!

Don't get any less than 18v for a 1/2" impact. I have a Milwaukee and it has been dependable for 4 years of heavy use on a circle track race team. In that time I've had one battery fail. I've also had a Znex 1/2" 18v for 2 years and I think it is a better unit than the Milwaukee and would recommend it over anything out. The Znex has more power and is much lighter. The lighter weight is very much a factor if you use it one-handed in awkward positions. I have a 3/8" 14.4v Znex also and between the two units I can do just about everything on the race car.

I been wanting to get me a 3/8th electric. Thanks for the tip, I'll check out the Znex.

Good comment on the wieght factor, that Milwaukee is a heavy dog!
