Now the work begins. No way shape or form will the OEM Exh. manifolds work in a Cobra frame. I have however, NOT tried to put one in a West Coast Cobra. Knowing West Coast is a little bigger than most, you might get real lucky.

Wiring: You will NOT find any 'aftermarket' engine harness for this engine. They were not made, at least by Dodge. You are certainly welcome to call 'Mopar', but they will tell you the same thing.

When we, "I" finally forced Chrysler/Dodge to release the motors to the public, i.e., "Crate Motors", they just came out in September at the VOI and declared they will NOT, turn the Gen. III into a 'crate' motor. Essentially ending any help or support from them.

Bottom line is; you're back where I was in '97. It can be done! Don't be discouraged, but if you are or get to be totally frustrated, I'll buy your complete drivetrain, ECM, fuel pump, harness, radiator, driveshaft say for 5K ? You can keep and part out the rest of the body parts, wheels, etc. What do you think-Hey?

Back to serious, buy "BOTH" manuals from Dodge. The tech. manual will be the biggest help on the wiring. With your wiring back ground you should be able to figure it out. You will end up cutting at least two thirds of the harness out, but be carefull when it comes to the temperature and air flow harness. Water is also tricky until you figure out that the engine has two temp. sensors. Another hint is that the (engine) fan has two speeds and NEEDS to be hooked up as such. (it will run fast at low speeds as the engine warms up, then as the car speeds up it will slow down.)

The speed sensor in the transmission is also critical. If the ECM fails to pick up the speed sensor it only thinks you are ideling! The "skip-shift" in the transmission can be bypassed. It's a real pain anyway. (I think Gen II and II are the same here.)

Headers: I make my own. Be prepared for a hefty price tag on those puppy's I have my machine shop cut out the head plate using the Viper exhaust gaskets, from there I build them up into either a 5 tube header flange, or, and I like this better, a single header plate with a 3" tube, that transverses into a 4" as it goes into the sidepipes.

If at all possible use the Viper radiator and fan! You will not have any heating problems!

Fuel Pump: If you can, use the Viper pump. You will have to cut your gas tank to install. It too is a major hassle. There are aftermarket pumps that are now available but will run almost $400.00 plus, plus lines and fittings for both ends. Me? I go the $400.00 route!

When you're ready, if you want I can go into the speedometer problem with you. (No mechanical hook up to the Viper T-56 6-speed)

MAX, the Viper motor will weigh in at least 150 lbs less than your 514. It will also blow a stock 514 away You know the old saying, 'been there--done that'?

One more thing before I go on into tomorrow, I can completely install and remove the engine and transmission, as a unit from the hood opening in a Classic Roadsters Cobra, there fore I am assuming you could too.
