Default Best EFI conversion for a Hilborn mechanical unit?

I just purchased a 427 side oiler off of Ebay and it is coming with a 58mm Hilborn fuel injection system that currently is running the old Accel 6.0 EFI. After speaking with the original owner he suggested changing the Accel out for something a little more modern. They could never get all the bugs worked out on the dyno and the older Accel is missing features that are now available to tweak the engine better. The Hilborn setup is complete with custom fuel rails and 36 lb. injectors. Accel now makes a 7.0 version. Fast, Richardson, are a few others I have heard about. I believe all I need is the brain, new wiring and sensors since I already have the Weber intake and Hilborn. Any suggestions which I should go with to best tune the engine? Thank you... Mike

DP935 Hi Mike Go with a FAST system I have been using one wih a throttle body for 5 years. It's sequantial with fuel and spark added or removed for each cylinder. It comes with a wiring harness and basic program to get it running. If you are runing a .500" or bigger cam get the wide band O2 sensor also. You just need a laptop to plug in and fine tune. Let a Dyno shop set the car up first then you can road test for the final touches. What kind of problems was there with the way it was running? Accell is a good basic system that most car will run fine on? Sound like it waas not setup right. 36 lb injector are not big enough for your motor. If it has 9.5-1 and a cam over .500" lift you need bigger injectors. I run a 452 9.2-1 comp with a .501-.533 cam Heads are CNC, nothing special and I needed 50's. I have been trying to straighten out my supercharger drive and then I will need 72 lbs. Make sure you have a good fuel system with 1/2" supply line and 3/8 return to tank. Watch the pressure at idle, keep it in the low 40's psi. Try a good dyno shop befor you swap ECU. Good Luck Rick Lake

Rick, it sounds like the engine runs great if your accelerating, but during cruise there are some flat spots. The original owner also felt he wasn't getting the HP the motor should be capable of with everything he has in it. It has a 613 lift roller cam and mild porting on the heads which are high rise type. Compression could be 11.5, I'm still waiting on the build sheet to see. It's atleast 10.5
The old Accel 6.0 runs from DOS on the computer and I don't think it has wide band 02 or spark control. A dyno shop with experience on the Accel EFI tuned it, but never got all the settings nailed down.
