Default Hilborn Carabine ECU

I bought this fuel injector, it has already been converted to EFI:

It is complete with injectors, fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator and TPS. And it was a real bargain!

What I need now to make this work besides a Weber intake and fuel pump is an ECU.

My first question: can anyone recommend the Hilborn Carabine ECU? It seems to have some advantages over the competitors' products because it only needs the throttle position sensor and it's tuneable with a screwdriver (no need for a laptop).
Are there any drawbacks or is the Carabine ECU as good as it sounds on the Hilborn page?

Second question: where can I get the best price for the Carabine ECU? Prices seem to vary quite a bit, from $950 to about $1200 is what I found out after a quick google search.

Btw are there any low buck alternatives like having a custom chip burned to make a Ford EEC work with the injector? I assume this won't work as the stock injection systems all use mass air and in this case a speed density system is needed?
