Default turn signal indicator wiring

I have a cobra in my shop that has a properly working lighting system with the exception of the turn signal lindicator lamp (single Lucas) on the dash panel. The system uses dual bulbs in the rear and a two terminal thermal flasher. There are four wires hanging from the wiring harness under the dash panel. They are the two leads and associated grounds from both L & R side turn lamp circuits. I hope that there is a simple way to connect these to a single dash inicator lamp - perhaps using diodes to isolate each side? When both are connected to the indicator lamp it essentially creates a four way flasher when either left or right turn is selected. I assume that the original builder planned to install a hazard flasher using the unused wires in question, since the thermal flasher is hot with the key off. There is no hazard switch.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

You can do it with diodes, but it's easier to just get a 3-pole flasher. The third terminal is for the dash light.

Yes,

That is what I originally guessed but when I hooked a three post flasher up the third terminal did not flash. Perhaps I hooked it up incorrectly. The three terminals are marked " X, P, L" . I have 12v to X, the indicator switch to L and the lamp on P.

I've never seen that notation on a flasher. The picture below of the two terminal flasher shows the position of the power-in and power-out terminals. (I don't know offhand which is which.) The additional terminal added onto the 3-prong flasher is the connection to the warning light.

Thanks for the pics. I have tried all combinations for the terminals. The only one that works has the dash light ouptut on all of the time and interrupts (flashes off) when the indicators are activated. That seems backward to me. Perhaps there is more than one type of three pin flasher? On interrupt and off interrupt?

On mine it has seperate brake and turn lamps on the rear. The brake signal doesn't come to the turn signal switch.Four way switch is a special switch dash mounted. Power comes through the flasher to the turn signal switch.and is split left and right.The four way ties the two sides together when actuated. I'musing the two wire flasher.
The americam manufactured cars had a single bulb for turn and brake lites.The brake signal goes thru the turn signal.seperate wires for LF,LR ,RF,RR. and a brake lite canseler is incorperated in the turn signal switch. That would be six wires if not eight wires for indicaters.

Keith,

The 3 pole flasher will work for you, you either have a defective flasher or the wiring was incorrect. You might want to prove the feild wiring to the lamps is ok. Just apply 12v to them individually, if you can't get it to work, PM me I'll walk you thru it.

Well, that was an interesting exercise! It turns out that the new flasher was apparently defective - flashing off rather than on.
