Default rear lincoln disk brake rebuild

Anybody have a good diagram and discription of rebuild procedure on early lincoln rear disk brake caliper with screw type emergency brake. Would like to know how the center screw type piston mechinism works.

What Lincoln do you have???

If you have the versailes, I can tell you the entire proceedure. If you have the typical ford slide bar and anchor, I would have to be standing there to tell you.

How far is Dowagiac from Flint?

Sorry, didn't catch the screw brake adjuster.

Okay, you pull on the lever and a screw inside the caliper turns. As it turns the piston is forced from the back of the caliper. There are almost NO parts available for this brake.

What do you want to do?

It looks like there is a basic adjustment that needs to be made when the caliper is first set up. Is there a procedure to move the mechinical nut adjuster with in the piston itself? Dowagiac is about 50 miles south west of Kalamazoo. Thanks for the help. Terry

In the piston, there are two or four holes. Go to the autoparts store and get the Ford piston adjusting tool ( could be as simple as a handle with two posts in it ). This will allow you to turn the piston out of the caliper and take up the difference between the rotor and the pads. Slip a .002 to .004 feeler guage in between and you should be good to go. Remember, the parking brake must be off to do this.

Things to check: The seal around the adjuster may leak, if so, rebuild the caliper. The cooper ring around the bango bolt is only good for 1 time. a second time may leak. The parking brake cable MUST be in line with the adjusting/actuator lever. Pressure test the caliper before you use it.

Hope this helps. Too far to drive at this time.

Thanks for the info, I would not expect you to drive over here to help but thanks for condering ti. We don't have any snow right now - a bunch is coming tonight. Do you have much experence with this caliper? It looks like the E-brake is a trick, I have been playing with it for about 3 months now. Terry
