Holley electric fuel pump mounting?
Hopefully, this will be my last stupid question for a long time.
While I've got the Cobra gutted I'm also running new fuel lines and relocating the electric fuel pump. It's the standard el-cheapo Holley red pump.
Does it care which way it's oriented? Currently, the motor housing is on top and the pump fittings are on bottom. It would be easier for me to mount it with the motor housing pointed either downward or sideways. My concern is that there are possibly internal seals that would dislike constant gravity pressure on them, causing a failure and leakage into the motor housing.
Help with this one last question and I promise to give the forum a rest.

Tom,
I could be wrong and if I am some others will correct me, but I think the fuel pump shold be mounted with the intake and outlet on the bottom like you have it. I looked at my papers on my Holly Blue pump and they say mount it that way. But they don't say it can't be mounted any other way.

I would keep the motor at the top, that's the way mine is.

The motor needs to be on top.
May I suggest you use rubber mounts to remove some of the running vibration?
Just a thought.

Tom,
I also have a Shell Valley. I mounted my Holly Red on the outside of the frame by the right-rear wheel and as low as possible. I used a through-the-frame SS fitting to run the fuel line from the outside of the frame to the inside. I have pix if you want to see it.

Tom, I also have a Shell Valley. I welded a bracket to the gas tank strap and bolted my pump to it. Doing this has the pump inlet even with the bottom of the gas tank. I also installed my fuel filter and cut off valve befor the pump.

Thanks SVM. I ended up mounting the pump in essentially the same place it had been, but with some spacers to position it a bit better.

If he bust a U joint, the location of his fuel pump is going to be the least of his problems.
Highly recommend that you mount your pump on rubber bushings to help with the vibration.
