Although it can offer an up to additional 24 ftlbs, I would like to know how much extra effort it takes to turn the steering wheel when this electric steering fails.

None. It defaults back to what it was when it was manual. |

Agreed. It is up to you. I had in mine and liked it however I know some that do not have it and it seems that the only time they wish they had it was some parking scenarios. Although once you have a cobra, you don’t tend to park it in the tightest places. |

The previous owner of my car put electric steering in it. It was a novelty at first but I quickly learned to hate it. I do not want a Cobra that steers like a Lincoln. There was very little feedback with it. I removed it and upgraded all the manual linkage and the car steers and feels like I want it to. It's tight and crisp and I have excellent steering feedback. There is not much effort required to steer these cars with manual steering. A word of caution if you decide to go the electric steering route. There is very little room under the dash to install the unit as well as the controls.

I prefer to drive without Power Steering and get more road feedback but having sticky 275 tires on the front, steering when car is standing is nearly impossible. So I got a PS on mine and connected the Electrical Hydraulic Pump to one of the switches on the dash board. Now when parking and rolling slowly I simply switch PS on and once I gain speed I switch it off.

Flaming River's Microsteer system allows you to 'dial in' the boost it provides, or you can add a Hall-effect sensor to turn it into a speed-sensitive system (boost at parking speeds, diminishing to none at higher speeds). |
