Windage tray?

After doing lots of measuring, it finally dawned on me that I won't be able to use a rear sump oil pan on my 351W/393. The stock pan I've got is a front sump pan, so I should be okay there.

In order to keep oil in my sump when I autocross, roadrace, or just accelerate hard, do I need a windage tray? Is there any other way to deal with oil wanting to be somewhere besides where the oil pick up is? (besides a dry sump, which isn't in the budget at the moment)

Bob;

A windage tray bolts to the main cap bolts,should not make any difference wether you use a front or rear sump pan......I think the main purpose of a windage tray is for the oil "splash" off the crank.......as far as auto-cross/roadracing,you may be thinking of a different oil pan with the trap doors in it and the side kick-outs,these keep the oil in the bottom of the pan so the pick-up does not suck air under hard cornering/accelaration............

I have both a windage tray and a 9 quart Canton road race pan on my 351-W............

Before I had the Canton road race pan,when I did a few open tracks,I just simply added an extra quart of oil to my stock 5 quart pan for insurance...........

Hi Bob, I would highly recommend a windage tray. They are twice the price for your motor but still short money.
They are quite easy to install between the pan and block. The horsepower gain is there and it stops the oil getting whipped by the crank into a foam which doesn't make good pressure.

I just installed a new Ford Racing Windage Tray--Cost $39.00 at Jegs or Summitt. Well worth the money.

I have a five baffle Canton and have not had any problem on tight curves where slosh would be a problem.

I also have a windage tray.
