Default safety wire

my car is literally 1 week away. I just got the tires mounted on Trigos. I saw on some other threads I need to use safety wire. How do you use it?

Safety wire is used to keep bolts and nuts from coming loose and falling off. You simply wire the bolt or nut in the tightening direction so that any time it may try to loosen itself, it is pulling AGAINST the safety wire. Two bolts or nuts can be saftey wired together so that if one bolt or nut trys to loosen itself, the safety wire actually tries to TIGHTEN the other bolt or nut, thus preventing the loose bolt or nut from backing itself off. Safety wire is used EXTENSIVELY in the Aircraft industry. It SHOULD be used more widely than it is. Easy way to prevent accidents/catastrophies. IMO.

If you are talking about your spinners just drill a 1/16" hole about 1" from the end of the spinner and then another (once you have got them tight with a lead hammer) ahead of the tightening direction of the spinner on the wheel itself. Cut about a 12 or 14" piece of safety wire and thread it through the spinner pulling it thru the hole to equal lengths. With the wire held together with your fingers pull it down to your other hole on your wheel. Attach your safety wire pliers just below your fingers and start pulling the pliers so it twists the wire to about 12 twist per inch. Take the untwisted wire and thread it thru the hole on the wheel and attach your pliers for about 1" of twisted wire. After you have twisted the last piece cut off all but about 3/4 - 1" of the safety wire and with a pair of needle nose pliers roll it under so as not to stick out and scratch someone. Then your done with one wheel and do the other three.

And be careful. Once you get the hang of it you will start safety wiring everything........including the cat......it's addictive.....
