Anyone Tried Cats In Their Sidepipes?

Has anyone tried catalytic converters in their sidepipes to control the sound DB's?
I was thinking of brazing a 3" cat after my collector. Then braze a 4" pipe on to the exit of the cat and put a Spiral Turbo baffle in the pipie. The only worry I have is possible to much heat from the cat bubbling the paint.

I've built a few sets of pipes with cats in them. I use a 4" cat inside the 4 1/2" body of the side pipe. They are removable and replacable and you can repack the baffles. I'm now looking at some other options for the muffler section of the baffle to try and control the heat a bit better.

Very nice Mike! What did you use for baffles after the cats? How was the sound after you installed the cats? Did you have any problem with the heat and your body paint?

PS: Nice engine I am installing an Iron block LS1 stroked 408 in my C5. I almost installed it in my Cobra, but I had a fresh 351C with new Aussie CHI Alum heads & Edelbrock Air Gap Intake.

Does the full Harrop intake fit?

I wonder if that would pass emissions here in New Jersey. If it did, a LS7 may be possible. However, they require the cat to be closer.
