Cobra Make, Engine: CRII with a Stroked Windsor

Default rear axle question
When I built my CRII I procured a rear axle from a 95 mustang. When I took it apart to clean up and paint I took a weight off of it that was attached to the diff near where the driveshaft comes into that axle. I never put it back on and found it while cleaning my garage tonight. Is it important? should I put it back on? If not will I blow up?
